Live stream: Bertrand Chamayou opens the Orchestre national de France’s 2018-19 season with Saint-Saëns

Warner Classics Concerts/Tours, Events

A major moment in the French classical music calendar, the Orchestre national de France’s inaugural concert for the 2018-19 season on 13 October doubled as album launch for Bertrand Chamayou, who performed the dazzling Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No.5, ‘The Egyptian’, newly released on disc with the same orchestra and Emmanuel Krivine conducting. As an encore, he offered a touching and tender rendition of Debussy’s Clair de lune, despite Saint-Saëns’ avowed disdain for his younger compatriot.

The entire concert is available to stream on the website of France Musique.

‘For this concert, we can let loose a little, which is perfect for the Egyptian concerto because you sometimes have the impression listening to it that you’ve had a few puffs of opium!’

The performance marks the first in a series featuring Chamayou as Artist in Residence at Radio France, with several more events and concerts taking place at the Maison de la Radio throughout 2018 and 2019.
